Selecting Swimming Pool Accessories

If you found that shopping for the right swimming pool was a little bit confusing with all the choices you had, then you may find the experience of buying accessories no different. From chairs to ladders to swimming pool covers, there are a huge variety of options. However, shopping does not have to be difficult. All you have to do is determine your needs before you start and avoid buying on impulse.

Perhaps one of the first things that you should consider buying is a pool cover. There are manual and automatic ones and they are made of durable, mostly plastic, material designed to fit any pool shape or size. You need them to protect your pool from environmental elements, especially during the winter and to keep leaves and other objects from falling into the pool so it stays clean. More importantly, having a pool cover helps to protect children, should they fall in.

A better way to ensure pool safety however, is to erect a pool fence. Installing a barrier around your pool keeps your own kids or kids that are visiting your place, safe. A good fence should be at least four feet high with a self-closing gate. Make sure the latch is out of reach of children.

You can add some color to your pool with swimming pool lights. There are more options now to the standard large white lights. You can choose a dazzling underwater light show in a wide array of colors or a calming blue and white pool light. You can even choose to have a waterfalls lighting effect. Swimming pool lighting not only illuminates your pool area but also adds to the ambience making it great for evening poolside entertaining.

Painting your pool is another way to bring life into your pool or by choosing patterned pool liners. Pool paints can be water-based, rubber-based, or epoxy-based. Water-based paints are great for seasonal applications and indoor pools. Rubber based pool paints can be made of chlorinated or synthetic rubber and give a high quality coating. You can use them on plaster surfaces and old or new concrete. For a smoother ceramic look, use Epoxy pool paint, which is non-porous making it algae and stain-resistant. Before application, you need to prime the surface with an epoxy primer.

Other pool accessories to consider include floating pool chairs and loungers, slides, diving boards, pool ladders, fountains, thermometers, pool clocks and much more. So, consider your budget and decide which swimming pool accessories are the most important to you. You can always add on more stuff later. Take care of the essentials first.
